To be honest our chances of winning the competition are pretty slim. We only picked up on the DirectoryContest.com contest around the 10th of January which gave us only 28 days total to get our entry listed in Google. We spent the first day deciding whether or not we would actually enter, after that was decided we then spent the next 4 days formulating our strategy. So we are then left with just 23 days to get our entry ranked for the search term.
The positives:
The directory we will be entering into this competition is over two years old which gives us an advantage over any of the newer directories or those which are created purely for entering into the competition. We also have an established page rank with Google, but this is not anywhere near high enough to guarantee any of the top spots.
The negatives:
We are way behind the competition, a lot of them have had more than two months head start to enter their directories and get ranked in Google, not to mention those that are taking the competition seriously will also have spent much of that time gaining back links to their sites and doing their best to enhance their directories to be Google friendly.
Overall, we would be very happy if we can get our entry into the top 50 results on the final day when the contest closes. Yes, of course it would be nice to win the contest but we do have to look at things realisticly and given our late entry a top 50 position would be a good achievement.
