Pay Per Click (PPC)
January 8th, 2007

PPC is a method through which you can promote almost anything on the Internet a cost per click basis. All you have to do is choose the product or service you want to advertise and a PPC advertising company. Many people regard PPC as the most efficient method to generate more and more traffic to their website. Nothing is different for the targeted customers browsing the Internet because they just have to click the advert which is basically a keyword or a keyword phrase and they are automatically redirected to your website.

You can open an account in any PPC search engine and deposit some money as an initial balance. You then need to begin preparing your advertising crusade by entering the title, description and URL of your website. At the end you have to place a bid on the relevant keywords. It’s quite easy, for example a website about candies can select a keyword “candy”. The basic advantage of the PPC method is that you have control over the amount of the bid you place for each click. When someone clicks your advert you are charged an amount for that click. Thus the more clicks your ad receives, the more traffic as well as more overall cost. The majority of PPC services will allow you to set a daily budget so that you don’t overspend.

Due to the advancement in the PPC industry over the last year, the cost per click has increased so much that it is difficult for some new web masters to afford it. For example if you have a website which comes in a popular category then you might be required to pay 1 dollar, 5 dollars or even 10 dollars per click. Thus it is now very difficult for new web masters to compete against some larger and well established web masters who can afford such spending.

The following are some steps one can follow for creating a proper PPC campaign:

  1. Create an attractive sales copy including the right keywords and a relevant title and description.
  2. Use simple and straight forward PPC ad styles. An appropriate landing page should be pointed to by your ad. This will help in preventing the visitors from unnecessarily hunting the information they want.
  3. Research your keywords thoroughly, don’t just go for the obvious and expensive keywords as your budget will run out in no time. Look for popular search terms relating to your web site or product that have not been picked up by your competitors.

The more time you spend preparing and researching your campaign, the better the results will be.
