Research can help you achieve success as an affiliate. Before you start the marketing and selling activities (as an affiliate); read reviews, testimonials and articles about the products and the websites. You can even ask the suppliers to provide you literature / brochures and other material through which you can get more details about the products and that can also serve as ready made (and good quality) marketing material for your website. Gain knowledge about the trade and the secrets. Who are the competitors in the field, what is their worth and know whether you can compete with them. This will help you in building your marketing strategy wherein you can focus more on the positives and the differentiators (against the competition) and downplay the negatives.
Focus on a specific product or products that you are passionate about and focus all your energy on them. Do not promote hundreds of products at a time. That will not make you reliable and credible. Moreover, in this era of super specialization you will lose credibility if you try to promote too many products at the same time. Further, you might end up wasting a lot of time and effort and not get the expected returns. You might lose out to your competitors in such a scenario. In this context, it becomes even more important that you do proper market research and analyze the potential of various products in order to zero-in on one or two products through which you can get the best returns on your effort. So, channelize your energy in an intelligent manner.
