Everybody wants to succeed in his or her life and efforts. However, the road to success is not so easy. Patience and determination are required in every step you move. In the case of affiliate marketing, you also need these qualities to succeed. Along with these qualities, there are a few other things (mentioned below) that you need to take up in order to avoid mistakes and become successful at affiliate marketing. We will cover these in this series of articles.

The first task is to “Check the background of the company whose products you want to sell as an affiliate”:

It is very important to do a background check on the company whose products you are recommending. Note that the world of the Internet (in fact, the entire business world) is full of fraudsters and you would not like to fall into the trap of fraudulant companies; after all, your payments would only be processed if the company is genuine. In this regard, there are a few basic things that you must check (note that there is a limit to the amount of background checking that you can do without spending to much time or money):

The merchant or the website for which you are promoting should have a proper address. Generally, genuine businesses are the only ones that have an address. Moreover, it also shows that the business owner is serious (to some extent at least) and that there are chances of it lasting over a decent period of time (and hence give you some returns on your effort). However, it is a bit premature to judge the business just on this pretext.

Get more information about the business by talking directly to them over the phone or meeting them if feasible. You might also contact them through e-mail. This will again help you learn if the business is a serious.

The best thing to do is to ask a third party about the business and the merchant. You might even ask the business owner to provide a few references and check the credentials of the company by contacting the references.

Always remember that it is your reputation at stake, so be as careful and choosy as you can with whom you decide to work with. We will highlight some other tasks in the next article so stay tuned.
