Affiliate marketing is one of the best things that you can do in you spare time. You are not required to sell something anytime and with little know how in internet will really get you places in affiliate marketing. In fact some even opted to quit their job and concentrate on affiliate marketing once they noticed they are earning more in this industry. The lure of being freelance, more time for yourself and with great money is very tempting.

However, as high as the promises of affiliate marketing can give you as low as it can do to you if you decide to do it full time. Of the common pitfalls that you will encounter of course are scams. With so many programs that you can sign up, there are those that promises you great bucks but in the end you’ll end up with less than what you expect. Worst, you may have signed up with an affiliate marketing program that asks for upfront money before you can join their affiliate program.

So aside from affiliate marketing that asks for money, what are other affiliate marketing opportunities that you should watch out?

Too good to be true – there are affiliate programs that promises you a very high percentage on commission. There are legitimate companies that will even give you as much as 80% of the actual price and recurring commission as long as your client uses the software consistently. However, what you need to watch out are those that promise you too much…more money, more percentage (95%? No way!). You will spend a lot of time marketing their tools, services and wares but in the end you’ll get something that’s next to nothing. To avoid this, read the fine lines and guidelines on how to do them.

Really Big Ones – To be part of the affiliate marketing, you need to place some banners in your website. They will give you special codes to identify you whenever there’s a sale that comes from your website. However, you need to look out for the banners that are really big, you won’t even have the chance to place something’s discernable there. As a marketer, your website should look good and professional so that people will try out the wares that you promote. It will look bad on your website when almost half of your page will say “Click Here! Buy Now!”

Lastly is the practical one, join forums dedicated to affiliate marketing to get the latest news on this business. Most of the time, you can create contacts and people will tell you which ones good and which one’s bad. Since most of the forums are honest to goodness, you can never have a bad advice as long as you ask the right question. You can even create contacts where you can expand your business for some time.

Affiliate marketing is a great option as the development of this program will be at your own pace. Just make sure you read the fine lines and be updated with the trends to get what you are supposed to have and expect in this business.
